About two decades ago, 4 high school friends, Ashin, Monster, Masa and Stone, first hit the garage under the name So Band. When the band’s first and second drummers left, drummer Ming joined and together the five of them became Mayday for 20 years. With 9 released albums and 4 Golden Melody Best Musical Group Awards, they are titled "King of Concerts" in Asia and one of the most influential Taiwanese bands in the 2000s.
“We made our first album just for something like memory.”
concept & inspirations
Mayday is known for their student band roots and their ability in capturing the zeitgeist of Taiwanese youth. Many of their music and lyrics centered around the themes of teenage angst and growing up. Therefore, the focal point of many Mayday’s songs and music videos is the emotional relationship between the musicians and their audiences, both lyrically and visually. The connection is based on shared realities, with the music reflecting the lives of both the creators and the crowd; as they age, as the world changes around them, Mayday’s members infuse their brand of rock with what they see and experience.
Inspired from Mayday’s themes and message, the concept of this 20th anniversary album set is designed to be a reminiscence of past. It is a journey exploring back to the past stories and growth, to see what we had lost and what we had learned growing up.
The packaging of the album set is based on 3 local Taiwanese culture - mailbox, letters and calendars. All 4 albums in the set are categorized into 4 different theme, and each theme is represented by a letter.
